Chico Lanete tops qualifiers, advances to FIBA 3X3 Doha WT Shoot-out Finals

Hours after his heroics versus Doha, Manila Chooks’ Chico Lanete entered the halfcourt of the Al Gharafa Sports Complex as he was part of the 2021 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Doha Masters Two-point Shoot-out.

Lanete, the oldest player in the tournament at 41, continued his hot-shooting, topping the qualifiers with 8 out of 10 baskets made, Saturday.

The former 5-on-5 pro only missed two shots in the first rack (first and fourth balls) before knocking down his last six shots.

Lanete advanced to the final round which takes place later in the day at 11:30PM (Manila time).

Also advancing to the Final Four were Darius Tarvydas of Lithuania’s Saklai with seven, Edmonton’s Steve Sir with six, and Austrian Filip Kramer of Graz with 5 (26.45 seconds).

Kramer was tied at five with Marko Milakovic of Novi Sad, Liman’s Nebojsa Kilijan, and Riga’s Karlis Lasmanis but was able to finish the two racks with the fastest time.

The winner of the shoot-out takes home US$500. No Filipino has won this contest yet at the World Tour level.
