Carl Tamayo is ready for the next level.
The sweet-shooting yet bruising 6-foot-7 forward out of Cebu has signed a three-year deal with B.League team Ryukyu.
The Golden Kings made the announcement on Wednesday.
Tamayo, 21, is one of the brightest prospects in the game today.
After leading Nazareth School of National University to two UAAP High School Boys’ Championships, Tamayo committed to University of the Philippines in 2020.
Despite the pandemic, Tamayo was able to showcase himself, giving a good account in Tab Baldwin’s Gilas Pilipinas.
In 11 FIBA appearances, Tamayo averaged 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds.
It made him a man amongst boys in the UAAP.
He was pivotal in the Fighting Maroons’s run to the top during Season 84. A season later, he powered UP to a second-place finish.
All in all, he played 36 games for UP, norming 13.08 points and 7.36 rebounds.
He was named to the UAAP Mythical Team in both seasons.
Ryukyu is one of the top-tier teams in B1. It is currently third in the league with a 21-7 record.
The Golden Kings have a deep team, as they also have the likes of Jack Cooley, Allen Durham, Keita Imamura, Josh Duncan, and Ryuichi Kishimoto.
Tamayo will arrive in Japan later this month.
