Alaska head coach Jeffrey Cariaso, NLEX Road Warrior Kiefer Ravena, and other PBA players have pledged to help the league personnel greatly affected by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which has had the sports world at a standstill.
The Alaska head coach was the first to respond to a series of Tweets written on Monday evening by league stats chief Fidel Mangonon III, who expressed concerns about game-day personnel who aren’t paid on a regular basis.
“Ayoko unahan ang PBA board. I’m sure Comm Willie [Marcial] will make sure everyone is taken care of during these tough times,” Cariaso wrote.
“But I will gladly start a pledge to help those affected in our PBA family.”
After Cariaso, NLEX main man Ravena then followed suit, Tweeting: “Same here, Coach Jeff!” to which Cariaso responded with:
“Sounds good Kief. Let’s coordinate with Comm and the PBA Board and do this the right way.”
Shortly after, Meralco teammates Nico Salva and Cliff Hodge also expressed their desire to help out.
“Let us know how we can contribute & help the PBA staff, coach. Thanks!” Salva wrote.
“Would love to help those that are in need also, coach, keep us updated,” Hodge added.
As of now, there is no concrete plan yet from the league, but such gestures from some of the league’s figures is indeed great news, given how testy times have become due to the pandemic that has practically locked down the world.
