Capital1 clinched its first title since debuting in women’s football last March, edging out the highly favored Kaya FC-Iloilo, 1-0, to capture the PAGSS Women’s Futsal Cup on Sunday, at the University of Asia and the Pacific gym.
In a tension-filled finale, Regine Rebosura rose to the occasion, delivering the lone goal in the second half to seal the championship in dramatic style and punctuate Capital1’s commanding campaign.
The victory marked a milestone for the team co-owned by sisters Milka and Mandy Romero, alongside respected Far Eastern University coach Let Dimzon.
And it was a sweet and convincing one.
The Solar Strikers went unbeaten through the tournament, not conceding a single goal in the elimination round — thanks in large part to the rock-solid performance of goalkeeper Yasmin Elauria. They capped their campaign with six straight wins en route to the crown.
“This win at the Women’s Futsal Cup is a meaningful step for our young Capital1 Solar Strikers team. With a solid mix of experienced players and top-tier coaching, we’re on the right path in building stronger foundations for the team,” said Milka Romero.
“Our team showed resilience and cohesion from the very start. Congratulations to our players and to all the other teams that participated as we aim to build and support women’s football altogether,” added Mandy Romero.
For her standout performance throughout the tournament, Rebosura was named the adidas MVP, while Elauria earned the Bootcamp Golden Glove. Both were also named to the Cherry Turf Mythical Five, alongside Yonah Dela Calzada (Makati FC), Maye Mendaño (Kaya FC-Iloilo), and Regina Aliping (Azzurri FC).
The Solar Strikers kicked off their dominant run with a 2-0 win over Makati FC, followed by a 10-0 thrashing of Forza, a 1-0 triumph over Pinay 5, and a 5-0 rout of Beach Hut.
In the semifinals, they held off a spirited challenge from Azzurri FC, escaping with a hard-earned 3-2 win to book their ticket to the championship match.
Under the steady leadership of Coach Dimzon, the Solar Strikers have also made their presence felt in the PFF Women’s League, where they recently finished a strong third — further signaling the team’s rise as a formidable force in the local women’s football scene.
