Carlos Yulo boosted his prospects for the Paris Olympics by bagging four gold medals at the recently concluded 2024 AGU Asian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships, including the elusive all-around gold at the Gymnastics Sport Palace in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The 24-year-old gymnast ended his two-year string of silver finishes with the title in the individual all-around. He scored a total of 85.298, fueled by two scores over 15 in his pet events: floor exercises (15.233) and vault (15.433).
These top scores in these apparatuses also sent him to the event finals, where he converted the pole positions to his third straight title on both the floor (14.933) and vault (14.833).
Yulo also added his third consecutive gold in the parallel bars with a score of 15.133, improving on his qualification score of 14.233.
The Olympian almost added a bronze in the horizontal bar but missed the podium by 0.367 points, scoring 13.433 against China’s Liao Jialei, who scored 13.800.
His younger brother, Karl Yulo, captured the vault title with an average score of 14.433 following his silver finish in Singapore last year.
The Philippines ended in second place in the medal tally in this joint Asian competition for seniors and juniors with five gold medals from the Yulo brothers, just behind China’s haul of 6 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
