Bryan Bagunas set to wear Cignal colors in return

After figuring in numerous wars in the past, Bryan Bagunas and Cignal have called for a truce.

In fact, Bagunas is headed to their side.

The 6-foot-5 national team stalwart has committed to play for the HD Spikers once his stint with Win Streak ends in the summer.

Joining Cignal is the next step for his career, he said.

“Excited ako to begin this new chapter of my career with the Cignal HD Spikers.

“Alam naman natin isa na sila sa pinakakilala at pinakarespetadong teams sa men’s volleyball dito sa Pilipinas, kaya umaasa akong makakatulong ako sa kanilang mahabang listahan ng mga tagumpay,” said the former National University Bulldog.

Bagunas has figured in numerous finals encounters against Cignal for the past nine years.

As part of Philippine Air Force, the two sides figured in five championship bouts with Cignal coming out on top three times.

Retooled are the HD Spikers heading into the new season after the departure of their Ateneo stalwarts.

Holdovers for Cignal are Spikers’ Turf MVP Joshua Umandal, outside spiker Alfred Valbuena, setter EJ Casaña, opposite Lloyd Josafat, and newly minted team captains Wendel Miguel and JP Bugaoan – who is also the reigning back-to-back best middle blocker.

Cignal added Ron Rosales, Giles Torres, Madz Gampong, Nas Gwaza, Cian Silang, and libero Vince Lorenzo to the squad.

“This 2024, we’re coming back with a renewed squad, may gustong patunayan, at siyempre andun pa rin yung gutom. Grateful kami kay Bryan that he signed with us, and also all our new bloods who will bring in their effort, energy, and lessons to the team. Hopefully, we can reach our goals in each tournament because for sure we will fight for every point with every game we play,” said Cignal men’s head coach Dexter Clamor.
