Brickman dishes nine dimes as Kaohsiung cruises past Tainan in T1

Jason Brickman steered Kaohsiung Familymart to a 96-83 win over Tainan TSG, continuing their dominant run so far in the 2021-22 T1 League season, Sunday at Kaohsiung Arena.

The 6-foot Filipino-American guard, who is the league’s leading assistman by a mile, dished out nine assists in the game to go along with 12 points, four steals, and two rebounds.

Up by just three, 43-40, at the half, the Aquas turned it up in the third canto. They dropped 31 points while limiting the Ghosthawks to just 17 points.

Things got heated with just 5.8 seconds left in the third frame. As Brickman went for a drive, Charles Garcia pulled him back in a dangerous foul.

Frustrated, Aquas general manager Li Weicheng confronted Garcia on the sidelines. Garcia flicked the GM’s cap off, resulting in a double ejection.

Li would later apologize for his action, banning himself for one month while donating Y100,000 to Kaohsiung grassroots programs.

Kaohsiung never let go of their double-digit lead in the final frame, leading by as much as 22 points, 85-63, after a Hu Longmao trey with 6:43 left.

This is the Aquas’ second win over the Ghosthawks this season, taking a 126-95 win last January 2 over at Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science Shao Tsung Gymnasium.

With the win, Kaohsiung raised its slate to a league-best 8-1 record while dropping Tainan to 2-5.

Hu played his best game of the season, finishing with 29 points built on five treys and 17 rebounds. Mindaugas Kupšas added 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks.

It was the imports who led the way for Tainan, on the other hand.

Naturalized player Will Artino got 27 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks. Jordan Chatman tallied 18 points and eight rebounds. Meanwhile, Charles Garcia chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds.

Up next for Brickman and Kaohsiung are Caelan Tiongson and Taoyuan on January 15 at Chung Yuan Christian University Gymnasium.
