Bolick vows this is just the beginning: ‘Can’t wait for the next chapter’

Robert Bolick remains proud of NorthPort even after seeing their 2021 PBA Philippine Cup campaign come to an end on Thursday.

A few hours after being swept by San Miguel Beer in the quarterfinals, the young star issued a heartfelt post on social media. It was full of vast reflection and gratitude for those who stuck with the team in the conference.

“Even if we fell short I’m still so so proud of my team! They gave me this unbelievable energy to keep doing so much more. It’s just the beginning for us. We will be back,” wrote the 26-year-old guard, who is second in the top three of the Best Player of the Conference race.

“I don’t mind about the nomination, I don’t care about the stats because it’s always the championship I look forward to.”

Bolick was undoubtedly one of NorthPort’s best players in the all-Filipino wars. He had averages of 17.2 points, 7.8 assists, and 6.7 rebounds.

One of his finest performances came in their last assignment in the eliminations. There, he had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists to steer his side to a 122-94 win over Alaska. They also clinched the fifth seed with a 6-5 record.

This is just his first conference back after a lengthy recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in 2019. And the proud son of Ormoc couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to play again despite all the doubt.

“They said I’m done, I can’t go back, I can’t play anymore and some even gave up on me but I stayed focus on my rehab. Every single day was a battle. It’s no joke, I promise,” the San Beda alum wrote.

“I worked so hard to get back in shape and gave everything I have every damn day. Then pandemic came but that did not hinder me to keep going. I was working out alone, I even watched films to keep me sane,” continue Bolick as he spent a few months in the US just to be able to train last year.

“My mantra was just to get better. That’s it. And now here I am fighting like a warrior even though some people don’t see me.”

So despite the end of their run, Bolick has lots of reasons to smile. And to cap it off, he said thanks to all those who helped him and NorthPort. Then he expressed optimism and excitement for what lies ahead.

“Thank you to everyone one who supported us this season, to the coaches, players, management, staff, and fans — I’ll keep swinging high for you all!” he said.

“Lastly thank You Lord for guiding me throughout this tournament. By your grace I was able to perform my best. Can’t wait for the next chapter.”
