The Philippines women’s national softball team, the RP Blu Girls, received an unexpected break Sunday morning (Philippine time).
Multi-time UAAP best pitcher and most valuable player Annalie Benjamen of Adamson University was supposed to start on the mound as the nationals took on Pakistan in Surrey, Canada. However, the Pakistanis did not show up for the scheduled tilt resulting to the forfeiture of the South Asian team.
“They did not show up,” the team’s head of delegation Ismael Veloso told Tiebreaker Times.
Pakistan was also absent against the Netherlands in its opening day match-up.
The one-day break helped further boost the morale of the Philippine-side after its shutout win against the Czech Republic.
“Mataas ang morale ng team ngayon,” Veloso added. “Hopefully we can transform the high morale to high energy during the game tomorrow.”
“Maganda chances natin if we play flawlessly tulad ng game natin against the Czechs.”
The Philippine (2-0) will play its final game in the group stage against the seventh-ranked Netherlands on Monday, 1:00am (Philippine time). The winner of the pivotal tilt will decide the top seed for Group F heading to the next round. The team has yet to decide who will start as pitcher as of publishing.
