Biñan-Tatak Gel looks to continue spotless start as Batangas-NZ Bluefire aims for bounce back

Biñan-Tatak Gel aims to keep its clean slate intact against Pasig, while defending champion Batangas-New Zealand Bluefire braces for a tough road test against RK Hoops-Quezon City 10ACT in Sunday’s double-header of the 2026 Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

Action begins at 4 p.m. with the Angels taking on the Queenpins, followed by the Valkyries facing RK Hoops-Quezon City 10ACT at 6 p.m. at the MRB Gymnasium in a pair of key early-season clashes.

Biñan-Tatak Gel and Pasig square off with both teams coming off dramatic victories, setting up a clash built on early momentum.

The Angels escaped with an 83-79 overtime win over Batangas-New Zealand Bluefire, with Luisa San Juan drilling a clutch three-pointer before sinking two free throws to seal the victory and lift them to 2-0 in the Aktive-backed tournament standings.

Biñan-Tatak Gel will once again lean on San Juan, Monique Del Carmen, and Chack Cabinbin to spearhead their charge against a Pasig side also looking to build on a strong win.

“Same lang, kung paano namin pinaghandaan ‘yung every team na makakaharap namin kasi sa ngayon, ‘di namin talaga alam ‘yung mga teams eh. Pero thankful kami na nakakuha kami ng panalo sa defending champions, momentum ‘yun,” said Angels head coach Jack Azcueta.

Nic Cancio, who buried the game-winner in their 68-67 escape over RK Hoops-Quezon City 10ACT, will again lead the charge alongside Lee Sario and Charm Natural as they aim to power the Queenpins (1-1) to a second straight victory.

Meanwhile, the Valkyries (1-1) and RK Hoops-Quezon City (1-2) will both look to bounce back from recent losses and get their campaigns back on track.

RK Hoops-Quezon City, however, faces a tall order as it will once again be without Tantoy Ferrer, who is in Sanya, China, representing Gilas Pilipinas in the Asian Beach Games 3×3 event. Still, the squad remains in capable hands with Ann Dampios, Stif Larrosa, and Faith Panti leading the charge.

Batangas-New Zealand Bluefire, meanwhile, will continue to rely on reigning MVP Afril Bernardino, along with Snow Penaranda and Khate Castillo, as it looks to steady its campaign moving forward.
