Bernadeth Pons powers Creamline past Chery Tiggo, to tie for 2nd in PVL Pool A

Bernadeth Pons’ big outing powered Creamline past Chery Tiggo in four sets, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 25-19, to rise for a share of second in Pool A of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.

Pons fired 25 points – her best outing in the pros – as the Cool Smashers picked up their second consecutive win in Pool A since losing their opener to PLDT.

The former FEU standout also had 23 excellent receptions and seven excellent digs.

The reigning All-Filipino champions are now tied with their victims for the second spot with identical 2-1 records.

“Sobrang happy kasi yung preparation namin, nakita namin sa game. And syempre yung momentum napupunta sa Creamline, naka-two straight (wins) kami,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.

Carrying their momentum from a rousing third-set victory, the Cool Smashers rode an early 10-3 run and never looked back. They left Chery Tiggo in the dust to secure the win after two hours and four minutes of action.

American import Erica Staunton delivered 21 points for Creamline in the victory.

Michele Gumabao was as reliable as ever with 17 points on 15 attacks, one ace, and one block, while Bea De Leon tallied 12 points.

Kyle Negrito glued things together and churned out 27 excellent sets to go along with five points.

Denden Lazaro-Revilla tallied 13 excellent receptions, while Kyla Atienza had 10 excellent digs for the Cool Smashers.

“Sana magsunod-sunod yung panalo namin para maging maganda yung standing namin pagdating (next round) sa kabilang bracket. Mag-improve kami, mag-training kami para mag-improve kami every game. Yun yung target talaga namin,” added Meneses.

On the other hand, Khat Bell’s 31-point outing went for naught as the Crossovers suffered their first loss after winning their first two games to open the tournament.

She also had nine excellent receptions and eight excellent digs.

The Crossovers will try to rebound from their loss when they take on PLDT, also on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
