ANTIPOLO — Converge head coach Aldin Ayo hopes to see Quincy Miller improve following his premature exit in their 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup encounter versus NLEX, Saturday night.
The American got ejected with 1:18 left in the second quarter after incurring an F1 penalty due to a landing spot foul on Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser. That left the FiberXers with no choice but to play all-Filipino the rest of the way.
His ejection came since he already had a technical foul to his name approaching the midway point of the first quarter. He and Road Warriors big man Michael Miranda got called for a T each for using profane language.
Even without him, though, the young squad managed to take care of business, 108-84, to stretch its winning streak to five in the mid-season joust.
“He has to learn from that,” said the youthful bench tactician during the postgame press conference at the Ynares Center here.
Miller has actually been tearing it up in the tournament with averages of 32.4 points and 16.7 rebounds prior to Saturday’s assignment.
Still, he has already amassed quite a few technical fouls. And he definitely wouldn’t want to incur more moving forward as five technical fouls in a conference would lead to an automatic one-game suspension, per PBA rules.
Ayo, though, said that the 29-year-old is just one competitive hooper, but at the same time believes that he’ll learn from his lessons.
“But, the good thing about it is he listens,” said the 45-year-old mentor of Miller, who has been playing professionally since 2012.
“That guy wants to win. He’ll do whatever it takes, even if it’s denying himself, or making sure he’ll be in control. He’ll do that, for sure. He listens.”
