On Friday afternoon, Ashon Andrews had his locks cut and his head shaved bald.
This started a new chapter in his budding career.
Andrews has transferred from University of the Philippines to University of Santo Tomas.
“I regret to announce that I will not be playing for UP in Season 86,” he said.
“After having a meaningful discussion with Coach Erik [Quintana], my mom, and Coach Pido [Jarencio], I have made the decision to continue my collegiate career at UST.”
Andrews, a product of Roosevelt High School, committed to UP last season.
In his rookie year, the 6-foot-4 winger played in three games norming 2.33 points during those games.
Andrews still played for the Fighting Maroons in the 2023 Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup, playing four games.
His last game with UP was back on May 27 when they took on NU.
Still, Andrews is grateful for the time he spent in UP.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the UP Community for their kindness, care, and support throughout the past year. I also want to extend an even bigger thank you to Coach Gold [Monteverde], Tito Pato [Gregorio], and Coach Bo [Perasol] for giving me the opportunity to play at one of the highest levels of basketball in the Philippines. Additionally, I would like to thank my teammates and the rest of the coaching staff,” he expressed.
Andrews will have to sit out one year before being eligible for UAAP Season 87 along with Kyle Paranada and Geremy Robinson.
He will still have three years of eligibility left.
