Andy Gemao prioritizes development abroad before finalizing UP commitment

Andy Gemao was initially reported to be studying and playing for University of the Philippines as early as UAAP Season 88.

However, that will not be the case for now.

The 6-foot-1, high-flying guard is indeed committed to UP if he decides to return home to the Philippines.

However, according to his father, Mark Vincent, Gemao will continue his development in Toronto, Canada for the time being.

At 18 years old, Gemao is still in Grade 11 and has two years of high school eligibility remaining at Royal Crown School.

“Wala pa po kaming target na taon. Gusto pa namin mag-gain ng more experience sa abroad, maglaro kasama ang NBA prospect, at ma-evaluate ang skillset ni Andy,” said the elder Gemao to Tiebreaker Times.

Royal Crown is one of Canada’s top basketball prep schools, and Gemao is currently playing alongside Canada youth team star Justus Haseley.2024-Pinoyliga-UP-vs-OLFU-Andy-Gemao Andy Gemao prioritizes development abroad before finalizing UP commitment Basketball News UAAP UP - philippine sports news

However, if Gemao does not receive a strong Division I offer after completing his secondary school years, he is fully committed to joining UP.

After all, it was the duo of Goldwin Monteverde and Tom Chua who played key roles in his development.

Gemao was part of the last batch of Bullpups coached by Monteverde at National University Nazareth School.

Manding is currently with UST, while Ples is part of the Rising Stars program at the Pau Gasol Academy in Barcelona, Spain.

Gemao could join the Fighting Maroons as early as UAAP Season 89.
