Andrew Nicholson is trying to remain optimistic despite the uncertainty surrounding his status for the rest of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The Bay Area star simply has his focus on recovering as he is listed as day-to-day due to the left ankle injury he suffered in Game 3 last Wednesday.
“We’ll see day by day,” he said when asked about the possibility of him coming back should their best-of-seven title series versus Ginebra go the limit.
“Trying to be optimistic about it. We’ll see.”
Nicholson, though, admitted that it’s tough to go down at a stage as crucial as the Finals, but keeps his fingers crossed that it would get better sooner.
“It’s tough. I just started walking, actually, today. We’re just gonna take it day by day to see how it goes,” the former NBA cager said.
“Hopefully it will be better tomorrow, just continue with the treatment, continue to take some meds, and just recuperate,” he added.
Wearing a protective boot, the 33-year-old sat out Friday night’s Game 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, limiting the Dragons without an import.
But even without their unquestioned leader, the guest team managed to come out victorious, 94-86, to tie the series at two games apiece.
Nicholson, of course, couldn’t be any prouder of his team’s gallant stand led by Kobey Lam, who starred with a game-high 30 points.
“Oh, so proud of them, honestly. The opportunity came to shine, to show that they can play good basketball without having an import on the floor,” he said.
“It’s just a great testament to our team, a great testament to our coach, to show the level that we are able to do,” furthered Nicholson.
“We’re an East Asia Super League team, so we’re gonna need everybody to compete in that tournament. It’s good to see them thrive in this opportunity.”
