Valdez requests support as she enters new chapter

Alyssa Valdez needs all the morale support she can get as she chases the dream

Days after Tiebreaker Times broke the news, local volleyball star Alyssa Valdez finally confirmed that she will be playing for 3BB Nakornonnt in the Thailand League in 2017.

Valdez is reportedly going to start her campaign on January 15 when she will be training with the team. The three-time Shakey’s V-League MVP will play her first match with the team on January 29 as 3BB begins their second round campaign.

“I thank 3BB Nakornnont for giving me the opportunity to join them next year. We are still threshing out details as of now, but I will be flying to Thailand on January 15 to begin preparing for a tournament starting January 29,” Valdez said through a release.

Being the first Filipina volleyball player in recent memory to play in a league abroad, Valdez hopes she can blaze the trail for future players looking to make a name for themselves outside the country.

“I am very excited about this and hope that this open doors for more Filipino volleyball players to get the chance to play overseas. This is a blessing that has been very timely as we celebrate Christmas season. “

The two-time UAAP champion had been insistent in her wish to play abroad since she last played collegiate volleyball for the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

Now that her dream has come to fruition, Valdez is asking for support from the entire volleyball community as she will be bringing the country’s name with her whenever she plays.

“I’d like to request your prayers and support since this is a challenge I’ve never encountered before. I also like to thank my family, friends and fans for sticking with me through thick and thin,” expressed the proud Batangueña.

“It’s always been a dream to play internationally and this is a very important step to making it happen. Thank you.”

And we will all be watching.
