Fresh off a standout stint in the SV.League, Osaka Marvelous opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon is eager to bring her international experience home and make a mark in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Solomon paused her campaign in Japan and reported back for national team duty on November 25, joining the Alas Women’s squad in preparation for her first-ever SEA Games appearance.
“Super excited po since yun nga, kakabalik ko lang po, and excited lang ako i-apply kung ano yung mga natutunan ko sa Japan and ma-experience ko yung first-ever SEA Games ko,” said the 6-foot-2 winger during Alas Pilipinas’ send-off at Gloria Maris in Greenhills.
The former National University star made a strong impression in her first 14 games in the SV.League, coming off the bench to score 79 points, including 58 attacks for Osaka Marvelous. She also demonstrated growth in her blocking, registering 20 kill blocks.
Expected to play a bigger role for Alas Pilipinas, Solomon said her experience competing in one of Asia’s top volleyball leagues will be invaluable as she aims to contribute to the national team’s campaign.
“Marami naman po [natutunan], and ayun — super nahubog talaga ako as a player,” she shared.
“I think yung blocking po, and yun nga siguro pinagtuunan ng pansin since yung naging role ko po doon is yung double sub.”
Solomon added that team chemistry—developed over two years with the same core group under head coach—will be a key advantage as the Philippines faces Thailand and Singapore in pool play.
“Malaking bagay po talaga yung chemistry, and I think naging mas buo po kami as a team. Very excited na po kami to play sa SEA Games,” said Solomon.
“Bibigay lang po namin siguro yung best namin sa mga games, and yun po — sana po suportahan kami kahit ano mangyari.”
