Always the Favorites, Never the Champs: Arcadia looks to lead RRQ Hoshi to first world title

Ever since the M-Series began in 2019, RRQ Hoshi has always been one of the clear-cut favorites to win the world title.

Prior to the M1 World Championship, the King of Kings entered the tournament as one of the heavy favorites after a stellar campaign in the MPL Indonesia Season Four that saw them finish second to eventual champion EVOS Legends.

The team, however, failed to live up to expectations as EVOS Legends once again got the better of them and repeated in the M1 finale.

Two years later, RRQ Hoshi came back to the world stage better than before as they were coming off a championship run in the MPL Indonesia Season Six where they took down a gritty Alter Ego squad.

That win, however, failed to translate to the M2 World Championship as they once again fell short of the title.

A finals return was actually on the horizon for the Indonesian squad. Unfortunately, they got knocked out by a red-hot Burmese Ghouls side in the upper bracket finals before suffering a beating at the hands of eventual M2 winner Bren Esports, which relegated them to third place.

From two consecutive podium finishes, Indonesia’s top-flight ML:BB team dropped to 5th-6th place in the M3 World Championship after getting eliminated by another Filipino squad and eventual world champion Blacklist International.

All is not lost, though, for the Kings of Kings as Filipino head coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado, who led them to a silver finish in the MPL Indonesia Season 10, is pulling out all the stops needed to make sure that the team can finally get over the hump and claim that elusive world title.

“Although I cannot disclose yung specific steps, sabihin na lang natin na tinaasan namin yung intensity ng training namin,” said Arcadia just moments after RRQ Hoshi took down Todak, 3-0, in the upper bracket quarterfinals of the M4 World Championship.

So far, RRQ Hoshi has already secured a 5th-6th place finish in the M4 World Championship after advancing to the upper bracket semifinals via its dominant win over Todak.

They will go up against the winner of the RRQ Akira-Blacklist International quarterfinal match in the next round.

“Our ultimate goal this time is yun nga, gaya ng sinabi mo yung placing ng RRQ (sa worlds) is not good, so this time our ultimate goal is to win it all and have a different outcome this M4.”
