Allen Durham has retired from professional basketball at the age of 36 following his last appearance on the court with Meralco in Okinawa.
The Meralco organization held a heartfelt send-off for Durham on Tuesday evening at the Meralco compound in Pasig City, celebrating his contributions to the franchise.
The Bolts’ head coach paid tribute to his long-time import saying, “Been through so many wars with Allen Durham. He’s a brother, a warrior, and a true pro. He will always be a part of our Bolts family.”
Durham’s farewell comes after the Bolts’ recent campaign, which ended in the Governors’ Cup quarterfinals with a hard-fought series against archrivals Justin Brownlee and Ginebra.
Durham led the Bolts to three Governors’ Cup finals appearances at his peak, cementing his legacy as one of the league’s premier imports.
Durham’s career in the PBA began in 2014 with Barako Bull.
Although the pandemic interrupted plans for his comeback with the Bolts in 2020, Durham found success B. League team, Ryukyu, where he captured a championship and earned Finals MVP honors during the 2022-23 season.
Before retiring, Durham made sure to have one last run with the Bolts.
After the Governors’ Cup, Durham took the floor for one last time in the EASL, bowing to the Golden Kings at Okinawa Arena.
The game, which marked a homecoming, became Durham’s final act on the court, leading him to announce his retirement shortly after.
