ANTIPOLO — Though he missed Game Three due to his commitments with San Miguel’s three PBA clubs, Letran’s Special Assistant to the Rector for Sports Development Alfrancis Chua did not miss the Knights’ championship celebration at Cafe Lupe here on Sunday evening.
In fact, even during San Miguel’s game against Bay Area, Chua was watching the game over at Philsports Arena.
And he was mighty proud of how Letran delivered against College of Saint Benilde despite not having lead guard Fran Yu for the game.
“They really played their hearts out, walang napikon kahit ano,” said Chua.
“I’m so proud of this batch of Letran. Talagang fighter sila.”
As a bonus to the team, Petron gave the Knights cash incentives while also pledging to bring the team to Japan for a much-needed vacation.
“Japan tapos I gave them a bonus galing sa Petron mula kay Boss RSA [Ramon S. Ang] na matutuwa yung mga bata,” added Chua.
This year marks the fourth-year of Letran’s partnership with the San Miguel Corporation — a partnership that has resulted in three championships.
But will Chua and SMC return to support Letran next season?
According to SMC’s sports director, it’s still up in the air as he, Ang, and head coach Bonnie Tan have yet to talk about it.
“Pagmee-meetingan muna namin kung ano plano namin for next season.
“Nakasuporta naman lagi si Boss RSA sa Letran. Actually, hindi ko naman magagawa ito kung hindi dahil kay Boss RSA. Si Boss RSA ang nagsabi sa akin na suportahan natin ang Letran. Alam mo naman, lahat ng sinusuportahan ni Boss RSA, nagwawagi,” he continued.
There’s still history though that can be made if SMC indeed returns to Letran.
A “four-peat” has never been achieved by any Knights team. And it’s a goal that might pull SMC back to Letran.
“Hindi pa nagagawa yung four-peat, pinag-aaralan pa namin. Hindi ko pa nga alam kung kailan yung susunod na season,” said Chua.
“Magmee-meeting muna kami before we plan anything.”
