Alas Women power past Indonesia for SEA V.League bronze

Alas Pilipinas unleashed a dominant start in the fourth set to take down Indonesia in their virtual bronze medal match, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13, securing a third consecutive podium finish in the 2025 Southeast Asia V.League on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off hard-fought losses to Thailand and Vietnam, the Filipinas saved their best for last, putting on a clinical performance to close out the tournament on a high note.

After being denied a straight-sets win, Alas came out blazing in the fourth set. The team launched a blistering 18-6 run to pull away for good and clinch the country’s third straight bronze in the regional tilt.

With momentum on their side, the Philippines now sets its sights on finally breaking through the third-place ceiling in the second leg of the tournament, set for August 8 to 10 in Vietnam.

Earlier in the opening set, Alas found themselves down by five, 8-13, but rallied back behind the net defense of Dell Palomata, Angel Canino, Alyssa Solomon, and Fifi Sharma to tie the match at 13-all.

That sparked a tense back-and-forth exchange with the Indonesians, until the Filipinas edged ahead at 15-14. From there, Sharma and Canino led a decisive 9-5 finishing run that sealed the opening frame in favor of the Philippines.

Riding that momentum, Alas jumped to an early five-point lead in the second set and never looked back. The team cruised to a commanding two-set advantage that placed them just one set away from the bronze.

However, the Filipinas faltered in the third, struggling with consistency and committing eight unforced errors that handed the frame to Indonesia, forcing a fourth set.

But Alas Pilipinas regrouped just in time — regaining control and never letting up — to seal their third straight bronze medal in the SEA V.League.
