After injury setback, MJ Phillips aims to fuel Petro Gazz’s All-Filipino chase

Fully recovered, MJ Phillips is ready to make up for lost time with Petro Gazz in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

Phillips missed a significant portion of the previous season for a couple of reasons.

The 6-foot middle blocker initially played for the Gwangju AI Peppers in the Korean V-League, which sidelined her from much of the Angels’ 2024 All-Filipino Conference campaign. She rejoined the team at the end of the preliminaries, helping them secure a bronze finish.

Later, a left foot injury kept Phillips out of the entire Reinforced Conference, where Petro Gazz, unable to defend its title, finished in sixth place.

Now feeling fit, Phillips is eager to make an impact in the extended, six-month tournament.PVL-2023-Semis-PLDT-vs.-Petrogazz-G3-MJ-Phillips-5647 After injury setback, MJ Phillips aims to fuel Petro Gazz’s All-Filipino chase News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

“My health is pretty good. I mean, I have great PTs, and my teammates are really patient with me, as are my coaches. I’m excited, but thankfully it’s a long season,” said the Filipino-American 29-year-old middle blocker.

Hailing from Carson, California, Phillips expressed excitement about reuniting with her teammates and building chemistry with the new additions, as they aim for the franchise’s first All-Filipino title.

“Yeah, I’m excited to play with some of my previous teammates and also get to know some new ones,” said Phillips.

“Playing alongside them is always exciting, and hopefully, our chemistry will be strong enough for a good outcome this conference,” she added.

“Chemistry is always very important, and with no one changing or anything, it’s just great to be with them. I’m very excited about this conference.”

Phillips and the Angels will open their campaign against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
