Adamson, NU sweep group phase in Asiabasket International Championship


Adamson and National University completed their group phase sweeps in the 2024 ANTA Asiabasket International Championship on Saturday at the Enderun Colleges Gym in BGC.

The Soaring Falcons defeated defending NCAA champions San Beda Red Lions, 65-57, while the Bulldogs pounced on guest team Lakas California, 92-62, to sweep their respective pools with pristine 4-0 marks.

Adamson opened its campaign with an 81-67 thrashing of Mapua, followed by wins over DKI Jakarta (68-35) and Far Eastern University (79-56).

Against San Beda, Matty Erolon fired four triples to finish with 24 points and four assists.

Allen Ignacio and AJ Fransman combined for 17 markers in the win as well.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs cruised past Lakas California to cap their dominant pool phase run.

NU romped past Phenom Blue Fire on opening day, 80-65, before following it up with a 92-72 rout of CSB.

On Day 4, the Bulldogs demolished Chinese Taipei’s National Formosa University, 101-76.

Omar John produced a double-double for NU with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Reinhard Jumamoy added 10.

Adamson takes on Phenom Blue Fire in the knockout quarterfinals tonight at 7:00 p.m. while NU faces San Beda to open the day at 1:00 p.m.

The Tamaraws secured the second seed in Group B after a 79-38 demolition of DKI Jakarta.

Veejay Pre led three Tamaraws in double figures with 12 points, while Mo Konateh and Luke Felipe scored 11 apiece. FEU takes on NFU in the quarters.

Benilde, which gave Jonnel Policarpio a bitter exit as an amateur with a 100-94 escape against Phenom Blue Fire in overtime, took the second seed in Group A and will face Mapua.
