AcroCity, Mighty Sports set for XABL Final in rare sister team clash

AcroCity moved a step closer to making history in the Xavier Alumni Basketball League by defeating Uratex 2018, 76-67, in a thrilling match to advance to the winner-take-all finals at the Xavier School Sports Center in Greenhills, San Juan.

Led by the stellar performance of former PBA star Joseph Yeo, AcroCity, the charming new development estate in the heart of Guiguinto, Bulacan, triumphed over the Uratex team, which featured former La Salle captain Joaqui Manuel.

AcroCity boasts a 3-star hotel, a fine dining restaurant, a wellness center, and logistics warehousing, making it a premier destination in the region.

Yeo received strong support from former UP Maroons standout Jarrel Lim and Keith Wongchuking, as AcroCity, under the guidance of coach Mike Fermin, moved within one win of becoming the youngest team to claim the XABL championship, adding a new chapter to the longest-running alumni league in the country.

Standing in AcroCity’s way is their sister team, Mighty Sports 2010-11, led by Angelo Wongshuking and coach TY Tang, who triumphed over PetOne, 74-70, thanks to the heroics of Harold Ng and ex-pro Rafael Banal.

This marks the first time that two sister teams from the Mighty Sports organization, led by Caesar Wongchuking, will compete for the ultimate prize.

The Mighty Sports organization holds the most titles in the alumni league, with 14 championships to their name.

Backed by veteran NBA players, Mighty Sports has dominated international competitions, winning the Jones Cup twice (2016 and 2019) and the Dubai Invitational championships in 2020, becoming the first non-Middle Eastern team to claim the prestigious title.
