Abriam finds form as CSB Lady Blazers run past EAC for solo lead in NCAA 95

Klarisa Abriam finally found her hard-hitting form as College of St. Benilde made short work of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17, in the NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Abriam snapped out of her personal slump after averaging six points in the first three games, hammering down all of her 16 points via attacks in just two frames. She propelled the Lady Blazers atop the standings with an immaculate 4-0 slate.

But while Abriam starred for St. Benilde this time around, it was still a collective effort from the Lady Blazers which led to the straight-set conquest of the Lady Generals.

“Gusto niya kasi lahat nayu-utilize para din sa conditioning ng mga bata para hindi sila masyadong pagod. Especially this NCAA masyadong dikit ang mga games, nagta-thrice a week tapos short lang din ang season. Hangga’t maaari ma-utilize lahat, wag ma-overuse ang mga bata,” said Saine Benilde assistant coach Charmaine Geronimo.

Michelle Gamit contributed 11 markers with all but one coming from attacks. Marites Pablo and Gayle Pascual chimed in seven points each, as Chelsea Umali pumped in five for the Lady Blazers, who saw nine players tally a point.

On the other hand, the Lady Generals remain winless in three matches, trudging at the bottom of the standings. They have yet to win a single game in the age-old league since Season 93.

Krizzia Reyes was the lone bright spot for EAC. She ended up with 13 points, as her teammates finished below twin-digit territory.

St. Benilde will try to keep its record intact when it faces San Sebastian on Tuesday, January 28. Meanwhile, EAC will look to end a long drought when it collides with Lyceum on the same day. Both matches will be held on the same venue.
