Aaron Black is set to undergo surgery the soonest time possible after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his right knee.
Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo said that the 27-year-old will be checked further by Dr. Raul Canlas to determine when it will be done after MRI results released Monday showed that he had sustained the said injury.
Black tore his ACL during their eventual 74-51 win over Magnolia in a PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup encounter Sunday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The second-generation cager went down when he attacked James Laput at the 10:09-mark of the third. He had to be carried by his teammates to the dugout.
Head coach Luigi Trillo later on disclosed that his prized guard ‘heard something pop’ on his knee due to the accidental contact with the 6-foot-10 big man.
“Accidental ‘yung bangga pero sabi niya, hindi lang kirot e. Parang he heard something pop,” said the veteran mentor.
Now, Meralco’s worst fears have come true after MRI results came out, as it will also mean missing Black’s services for a long period of time.
Black played for 10 games this conference and averaged 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per outing for a Bolts side (5-5) that’s caught in a three-way tie with Rain or Shine and Terrafirma at sixth in the standings.
