Philippine sports caught a glimpse of its promising future in skateboarding, and the preview came courtesy of two young prodigies.
Eleven-year-old Mazel Paris Alegado soared above the competition in a dominant performance, capturing the gold medal in the extreme skateboarding event of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at the SAT Extreme Sports Park, Saturday.
Based in Los Angeles, California, Alegado became the Philippines’ youngest gold medalist in this year’s SEA Games.
Her impressive runs kept her at the top from the preliminary round through the finals.
She sealed her victory with a final score of 79.72.
Another 11-year-old Filipina, Elizabeth Amador, delivered a remarkable performance to secure the silver medal with a score of 72.03, giving the Philippines a 1-2 finish.
The bronze went to Freya Sariya Brown of host nation Thailand, who scored 64.13, narrowly edging out Indonesia’s Cinta Nyimas Bunga, a consistent top-three contender heading into the final round.
Alegado, who in 2023 was the youngest athlete at just nine years old at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, has been in exceptional form leading up to the SEA Games.
Just last November, she triumphed over 35 of the world’s top skateboarders to win first place in the 2025 Skate Women’s Bowl Open Pro Finals in Encinitas, California.
