Jerwin Ancajas was simply on another level
Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas (27-1-1, 18KO) retained his IBF World Super Flyweight championship with after stopping Teiru Kinoshita (25-2-1), in the co-main event of the Battle of Brisbane held at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
Coming into his second title defense, the 25-year-old champion was sharp throughout the fight. He connected with a left straight against his challenger to open the round. Kinoshita, who is on his second attempt at the said title, returned favor with a shot of his own, only to be at the receiving end of Ancajas’ combinations, resulting in a cut above his right eye by the end of round two.
Ancajas continued to punish the Kobe, Japan-based boxer, utilizing his quickness to go in and out of range and land his punches. He ended the third round with a body punch.
Coming into the fourth round, “Pretty Boy” showed his hand speed yet again, firing rapid shots to the body of Kinoshita. However, there was no quit in the Japanese pugilist. as he tried to fire offense from the clinch. Kinoshita was able to land his punches later on in the fifth, but the champion efficiently picked him apart with multiple combinations.
By round seven, Kinoshita’s eye was close to being shut, but he was able find success with his left hand, landing a big shot to Ancajas. However, it proved to be his last go, as Ancajas punished him with a five-punch combination capped by a right body punch that dropped Kinoshita. The Japanese fighter tried to stand up before the eight count but the referee saved him from further harm, ending the fight at the 1:53 mark of the round.
In the preliminaries, Pacquiao’s second cousin Jonel Dapidran absorbed a unanimous decision loss to Brent Dames to kick off the card.
Dapidran, who was making his international debut, was unable to get his groove against the Dandenong, Victoria-native leading to a scoreline of 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55.
This dropped the Filipino super lightweight’s record to 8-2.
