The San Beda College Red Lions remain unscathed in the elimination round of the Premiere Cup after toppling the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 73-57, Wednesday evening at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Red Lions have the daggers to pull off a sweep in the league with a perfect 7-0 record, but coach Boyet Fernandez wants to take things one at a time.
“For us, we’re not looking at the sweep. For now, we’re looking at number eight on Friday. For us, that’s the end result of every game we’re looking for,” Fernandez shared.
The Red Lions only has one game left, facing the Ateneo de Manila University on June 16 before entering the playoffs where they will meet fourth seeded UP.
The Red Lions had dominated the game well, with a 41-29 scoreline by the halftime, and they continued mercilessly shooting against the Heavy Bombers to reach a final score of 73-57.
Arnaud Noah did most of the damage with 17 points, supported by Toba Eugene with 11 points. San Beda rookie Kemark Carino played quality minutes and paced eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
Despite a splendid run of the Red Lions so far, coach Fernandez is still very keen on their flaws.
“Well, marami pa kaming dapat matutunan in terms of execution. There are times na the players got out of the system,” Fernandez shared. “It’s human nature to look for the score. I emphasized at the half that at the end of the ballgame, I’m not looking at your scores, I look at the scores of the other team. I love playing the Filoil because it will give us more chances to improve.”
Jed Mendoza and Abdouladif Poutouochi scored the most for the Heavy Bombers with 15 and 12 markers respectively.
