TNT lets go of Bowles

TNT Katropa find themselves import-less just a day before the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, as they have decided to let go of long-time PBA reinforcement Denzel Bowles, head coach Nash Racela confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

The first-time pro coach, who did not give much information regarding TNT management’s release of the former Best Import awardee, pointed out that Bowles had to fly back home due to personal matters.

“We still don’t have [a replacement] import, but hopefully we’ll get one by next week,” said Racela.

The 6’10” big man out of James Madison University, who had a falling-out with his former team Star Hotshots after a conflict with the coaching staff, came back in the PBA and signed with TNT in the latter part of February this year.

The 2013 Commissioner’s Cup champion had averaged 26.1 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks in his three-year tour of duty with the Purefoods franchise, making him one of the fan favorites of the storied franchise.

However, Bowles, who last played for the Star Hotshots last season, has become controversial as of late after signing with the Katropa as he declared through his Twitter account that he will never suit up in a Purefoods jersey ever again.

Regarding TNT’s replacement import, Racela and the team aim to acquire a new foreign reinforcement as early as next week before they face the Meralco Bolts on Friday, March 24.

“We’re hoping to fly in the new import, whoever he may be, next week so he can have at least three practices with us,” Racela admitted.
