Jolina Dela Cruz delivered her best performance yet in her two-conference Premier Volleyball League career on Thursday but even that failed to boost up-and-down F2 Logistics to the win.
Dela Cruz, the 5-foot-9 wing spiker, unloaded a career-best 30 points spread through 28 points, a block, and an ace along with seven excellent receptions.
However, the Cargo Movers still bowed to Cignal in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24 at the filled Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
“Naalala ko lang yung sinabi ni Coach Reg (Diego) before the game starts po na isipin namin na last game na namin ‘to and all out na talaga kasi sabihin ‘man natin o hindi, yung standing namin and yung situation namin talagang deliks na,” said the 24-year-old rookie Dela Cruz on her scoring explosion.
“Ayun, ‘di namin alam kung makakapasok pa ba kami sa top four. Yun lang yung iniisip ko kanina na super importante nung game today na kailangan namin manalo pero ayun nga, kinapos kami,” she continued.
That loss dropped F2 Logistics to an even 4-4 slate for solo seventh. Only the top four teams after the single round eliminations will enter postseason action.
The Cargo Movers’ campaign continued to be shaky, which started with an Akari five-set upset. They went on to beat NXLED, Galeries, Farm Fresh, and Gerflor, four teams below them in the standings while yet to slay the heavy hitters above them.
Dela Cruz acknowledged their shortcomings that led to their position right now.
“‘Di ko din po masabi kasi binibigay na rin po ng coaches din yung mga kailangang gawin. Siguro on our part po, meron din naman kaming accountability na mali talaga namin yun. Yung mga nangyayari,” said the De La Salle University product.
They will finish the elims against Choco Mucho (5-1), Chery Tiggo (6-1), and PLDT (5-2).
“Lalaro pa rin po talaga kami. Ganun naman siguro yung kailangan naming ipakita despite na natatalo kami. Kailangan pa rin naming mag-show up sa mga games namin and laruin pa rin namin kasi professional na ‘to eh, we need to be professional din.”
