The San Beda College Red Spikers roll on to their second straight win after making short work of the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers in straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20, Monday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Middle blocker Limuel Patenio plucked a breakout game after leading San Beda with 11 markers off seven attacks, three blocks, and a service ace.
The Mendiola-based squad shook off their slim edge on blocks and service aces, firing off 36 attacks against the opponents’ 20.
San Beda showed their deep bench as head coach Jose Roque fielded in different starting lineups in the match’s three sets.
Gerald Zabala led the supporting cast for the Red Spikers, pouring in nine points. MVP candidate Mark Enciso had eight spikes in his two sets at the court.
JRU’s marksman Ron Dampitan Jr. was limited to just six markers. Team captain Larry Siojo came off the bench for the Heavy Bombers, also giving off six points.
The game’s Best Scorer Patenio expected his performance against the Bombers. He shared, “Yung training namin kahapon seryoso, tapos enjoy. Sabi naman ni coach and nung manager namin enjoy lang sa game. Yung nangyayari sa training, mangyayari naman sa game, i-apply lang at lahat gagawa.”
He also said that the team will prepare doubly hard for their next game against the undefeated Arellano University Chiefs.
“Sabi ni coach, ‘Paghandaan natin yung Arellano,” he added. “Actually lahat naman ng game namin pinaghahandaan namin, pero mas matindi ngayon kasi wala pa silang talo. Alam naman namin na malakas din ang Arellano.”
The Red Spikers (4-1) look to blemish the Chief’s immaculate 4-0 record when they go to war on Wednesday, December 7. The Heavy Bombers (1-4), on the other hand, take on San Sebastian Golden Stags (1-3) in a battle for survival on Monday, December 12.
