Andy Gemao finally received the breakthrough he had long been hoping for on Friday evening (Manila time).
The 6-foot-2 swingman has received his first Division I offer, coming from Pennsylvania State University.
His father, Mark Vincent Gemao, made the announcement on his Facebook page.
“Thanks for the prayers,” the elder Gemao wrote in his post.
“First secured Division 1 offer — Penn State University.”
Gemao, 19, is regarded as the top Filipino prospect in the Class of 2026.
“Sobrang grateful ako sa lahat ng opportunities na dumaan. From Veritas to Royal Crown, bawat stop may mga natutunan ako na baon ko hanggang sa pagtuntong ko sa college,” he once told Tiebreaker Times, reflecting on his journey.
After attending the adidas Nations Tokyo Under-19 Special Camp last April, Gemao returned to the Philippines to evaluate his next steps in his basketball career.
He also saw action for one game with the University of the Philippines in Asiabasket.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, Nittany Lions head coach Mike Rhoades was part of a Zoom meeting with Andy and Mark Vincent.
No NIL deal was discussed during the meeting.
