UP fans who packed the Varsity Training Center in the school’s Diliman campus to watch the Fighting Maroons take on the Benilde Blazers got an added treat.
Aside from UP playing in front of a home crowd for the first time in the venue, a blue-chip prospect also suited up for the Fighting Maroons.
Andy Gemao is in uniform for UP in their opening game of a two-game homestand.
The former NCAA Juniors Basketball Finals MVP has been training with the Fighting Maroons since arriving in the country in the last week of March.
The 6-foot-2 guard, who finished high school at Royal Crown School in Ontario and is regarded as a top prospect in the 2026 class alongside Ateneo-commit Kieffer Alas, remains uncommitted for college.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, Gemao is still weighing the offers he has received from US colleges.
This is not the first time Gemao has suited up for UP in a preseason league.
Back in 2024, prior to leaving for Canada, he joined the Fighting Maroons in the Pinoyliga Cup.
That same year, he also took part in UP’s training camp in Serbia.
UP is currently 1-0 in the NSAC group phase and will face Lyceum on Sunday, still at the same Diliman venue.
