Adamson narrowly hurdles UE for first win

The Adamson University Lady Falcons escaped with the victory against The University of the East Lady Warriors this past Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

The Lady Falcons narrowly hurdled past The Lady warriors with the series tied at two games apiece coming into the final match.

Adamson bags their first win of the tourney coming off a dismal performance versus the DLSU Lady Shuttlers. The Lady Warriors, meanwhile, skid to a 0-2 record after also losing to UST during the opening day.

Adamson got the first victory in the team tie Christine Garin winning over UE’s Erycka Labay, 21-10 and 21-16. The senior controlled the whole match with her unpredictable placing that forced Labay to return the shuttlecock in vulnerable positions. Labay had a better start in the second game but was riddled with errors late in the period that allowed Garin to pull away.

Clydel Pada of the Lady Falcons also got the better of Lyra Rosal in the second match of the team tie. Rosal took the opening game with Pineda having problems with reception early on, 21-15. Pada then had a hot streak to pull of the comeback thanks to her creative placement. The Lady Falcon won the two remaining sets convincingly, 21-16 and 21-9.

With a sense of urgency, Erycka Labay and Pamela Fernandez took the third match against the Adamson duo of Christine Garin and Alyssa San Pedro to keep UE’s hopes alive. The teams went toe-to-toe for the majority of the game, but Labay and Fernandez had more in the tank as they take the game in three sets, 12-21, 21-17, and 26-24 respectively.

However, The Lady falcons went on a slump in the third period and UE took over to win the deciding game, 21-13.

Mika Aquino Redeemed herself with a decisive win against Heide Rosal in the final match to bring Adamson in the winning column in the team tie. Rosal didn’t have an answer against Aquino’s sharp attacks as Adamson dominates the final match in two sets, 21-13 and 21-10.
