Three Filipinos competed in ONE Championship’s Tribe of Warriors card with two facing hometown darlings.
Jimmy “The Silencer” Yabo and Trestle “Jun Minion” Tan came in as huge underdogs against Bashir Ahmad of Pakistan and half-Mexican, half-Indonesian unbeaten prospect Djatmiko Waluyo. The two though staved off the odds in a couple of first round wins to come out of Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia as victors.
However, unbeaten Filipino Rocky Batolbatol is now in a two-fight losing streak. The URCC veteran succumbed to a rear naked choke to Indonesia-based Dutch fighter Anthony Engelen in just the first round.
Yabo silences Pakistani opponent in just 20 seconds
Bashir Ahmad is a relentless striker and is known as the “Father of Pakistani MMA.” Yabo too is a local knockout artist that made this bout a “can’t blink”- type of bout. It certainly held true as the match only went on for 20 seconds.

Ahmad came out with guns slinging as he swung away to corner Yabo. As the two broke up, Ahmad tried to reengage with Yabo but a timely right hook by the “Silencer” dropped Ahmad and a hammerfist for good measure stopped the contest.
“I’m so happy. Finally I won! Thank you,” an overjoyed Yabo said after the fight. “There’s no pressure. I just waited and followed the gameplan.”
With the win , Yabo breaks out of his funk and goes up to 5-2-1NC while Ahmad drops to an even slate with 3-3.
Batolbatol taps to Dutch-Indonesian fighter
“The Outlaw” was set-off by the aggressive striking of BJJ practitioner Anthony Engelen. Engelen went for leg kicks and wild combinations to start the bout. At the 4:32 mark, the former pro boxer clipped his Dutch opponent that dropped Engelen to one knee.
Knowing the power of Batolbatol, Engelen was able to take his opponent down 1:29 into the bout. Short elbows by the hometown favorite forced the Filipino lightweight to turtle up. After a few knees to the head of his opponent, Engelen attempted a rear naked choke attempt at the 2:52 mark. Seven seconds later, the choke was locked in and “The Outlaw” had no other choice but to tap.
The loss drops Batolbatol’s record to 5-2 while Engelen goes up to 4-1.
“Jun Minion” caps event with huge upset
Half-Mexican, half-Indonessian prospect Djatmiko Waluyo was the overwhelming favorite going into the bout with a clean 5-0 slate. On the other hand, Trestle Tan was coming off two tough first round losses. Tan though fought with vigor to score the huge upset Saturday evening.
The 31 year old Filipino was quickly attacked by Waluyo ending with a huge takedown by the unbeaten fighter. Tan was able to reverse the attempt and go into Waluyo’s half-guard. As Tan was connecting with short elbows, the Indonesian was able to place his opponent in his guard and immediately attempted a triangle choke. The left leg of Waluyo was loose though resulting to “Jun Minion” gaining side control.
In an advantageous position, Tan landed huge knees to his opponents body with huge elbow shots to the head. With 2:22 left the Filipino was able to mount his opponent and land huge shots to the side of his head. A minute later, Trestle Tan was able to secure his opponent’s back and attempt a rear naked choke. He was able to secure the choke and with 57 seconds remaining, Waluyo taps to stun the Indonesian crowd.
With the win, Tan is now 4-5-1NC in his MMA career while his opponent suffers his first loss.
