Global-Cebu FC begins AFC Cup campaign in Hanoi

A new-look Global-Cebu FC are chasing a good result against FLC Thanh Hoa FC to jumpstart their bid in the 2018 Asia Football Confederation Cup in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Marjo Allado, Global-Cebu’s Head Coach, admits that Thanh Hoa are a very dangerous team.

“An away game is always tough to start a tournament, but we will give our best to have a good result tomorrow,” says Allado during the pre-match press conference between the two sides earlier today.

Allado is also wary of Thanh Hoa FC’s long preparation for their AFC Cup debut.

“We have been watching some of their games to see their strengths and weaknesses. I believe the team has a good run last year. They also trained in South Korea which is colder than here, so they are ready,” Allado added.

For his part, team captain Patrick Deyto vowed to do everything necessary for Global to start their campaign on the right foot.

“I agree with our coach that playing away from home is always hard but we will do everything to get the full three points,” the 27-year-old goal keeper said.

Last year, the Cebu-based club team reached the ASEAN Zonal semifinals but lost to Singaporean club Home United with an aggregate score of 5-4.

FLC Thanh Hoa FC head coach Marian Mihail praised their opponents for their positive take on the match.

“I heard they are very optimistic coming here to win. That is a very good attitude in football. But we are very technical team with a winning mentality. We came here to win. And we will do our best to win,” he said.

Mihail also assured their fans and supporters that they want to put behind their last game in South Korea.

“We want to show that we play good football. That we play beautiful football and show that Thanh Hoa is a good team,” the Romanian tactician said.

Global Cebu FC will meet FLC Thanh Hoa FC on Saturday, February 10, 5:30pm Manila time at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.
