Although its team may be one of the youngest in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women, Indonesia showed that it can still pick up wins, hammering Singapore in straight sets, 25-14, 25-13, 25-14, on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
The Indonesians, who fielded a squad composed of 17 to 22-year-old players, improved to 1-1 in Pool B.
They are level with Kazakhstan and Hong Kong for the second to fourth spots.
“We’ve done a good job today. We communicated well and our teamwork is good today,” said setter Alridhania Risqamara after their 71-minute win.
“This is the first time we joined an international competition so we hope this can improve our skills and mentality. This is a good experience for us,” she added, referring to the team’s objective in this tournament.
Team captain Sabrina Agustina spearheaded Indonesia’s onslaught with 15 points on an efficient clip of 15-of-29 attacks.
Outside hitter Junaida Santi poured it on as well with 12 points spread through seven attacks, three service aces, and two blocks. Meanwhile, Putri Agustin added 11 points.
The Indonesians almost doubled up on the Singaporeans in the attacking department, 46-26, while also receiving 20 free points off their opponents’ errors.
Indonesia will look to build on this win when it battles Kazakhstan tomorrow at 1 p.m.
