V.League: Bagunas’ 16 not enough to snap Oita Miyoshi’s skid


Bryan Bagunas remained to be the rock for the skidding Oita Miyoshi.

The Weisse Adler reeled to their eighth consecutive defeat after yielding to Hiroshima in straight sets, 22-25, 23-25, 21-25, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Zip Arena Okayama on Sunday.

The 6-foot-5 Filipino import led his squad with 16 points on an efficient 15-of-24 in his spiking attempts. But an excellent performance could not tow his team to victory.

Despite the loss, Oita Miyoshi showed some promise, keeping in step with the JT Thunders every step of the way, just lacking the finishing kick.

Yesterday, the Weisse Adler also bowed in straight sets including a brutal 25-11 third frame.

Thomas Edgar lifted Hiroshima anew with 18 points on a 59.3 clip while Sakashita Junya followed with 13 points.

The JT Thunders improved to 14-16, leapfrogging JTEKT for the sixth spot, while Oita Miyoshi slid to 5-24.

Kota Yamada backstopped Bagunas with 11 points while Venezuelan import Emerson Rodriguez added 10 points in the losing cause.

The Weisse Adler look to stop the bleeding on Saturday against Panasonic at 1 pm (Manila time) at the Cycle Shop Kodama Osu Arena in Oita.
