UST ends season on a high note with win over AdU

The UST Men’s Badminton team defeated their counterparts from Adamson University to end their season on a high note. The Growling Tigers beat the Soaring Falcons, 4-1.

Mark Sotea (UST) dictated the tempo during the first singles match versus Gerloth Delizo (AdU) from the get go, winning both games 21-13. Sotea proved to be too much for Delizo making five consecutive points in the first and twice in the second games to win.

The second singles match proved to be a different story but the same result for UST. It was a three game thriller as Paul Pantig of UST edged out AdU’s Kevin Fabros. Pantig won the first game over Fabros with a score of 21-15 having scored consecutive points multiple times. Fabros then won the second game 21-16 after repelling a potential Pantig comeback. Pantig recovered for the third game, winning it with a lopsided score of 21-10. Fabros never imposed himself in the third game.

AdU then pulled a match back courtesy of a win from EJ Viloria and Alben Concha over the UST duo of Henrick Peralta and Jesschard Piol in the first doubles match. It was a straightforward win for the Soaring Falcons as they won both sets 21-15.

UST won the second doubles game with the returning Pantig and Edgard Reyes defeating AdU for whom Fabrosa and Delizo reappeared for. Similar to the first doubles match, the Growling Tigers breezed through the Soaring Falcons. The scores for this match were 21-13 and 21-11.

In the last match of the tie, Alcaed Sabanal represented UST and Viloria returned for AdU. Viloria won AdU a close first game with a score of 21-17. Sabanal then won another close game of his own 21-16 after taking full advantage of the tiring Viloria. Fatigue then crept in for Viloria as he lost 21-8 to Sabanal.

The UST Men’s Badminton team ends their UAAP Season 78 campaign with a 3-4 record landing them at fifth place. Meanwhile Adamson lands in 7th place with just one win throughout the Season.
