UP-JRU UCBL game called off after Belmonte-Amores scuffle

The PG FLEX-UCBL Preseason Invitational Tournament game between University of the Philippines and Jose Rizal University was called off on Tuesday after a bench-clearing brawl happened between both squads.

The incident occurred with two minutes and 12 seconds left, with the Fighting Maroons up 52-41 while in the midst of a 15-2 run.

UP’s Mark Belmonte and JRU’s John Amores were jockeying for position.

Belmonte threw a short elbow to the chest of Amores. Amores then retaliated by hitting Belmonte with an elbow to his back.

As the JRU player tried to drag Belmonte up through the collar of his jersey, he swung a huge right that connected to the face of a prone Belmonte.

It resulted in a bench-clearing incident.

The game stopped after the two squads were separated.

Harold Alarcon was having himself a game in the contest, already putting up 20 points in just three quarters.

William Sy was leading the way for JRU with 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
