Dwight Ramos hints at possible PBA jump in 2026

It may only be a matter of time before Dwight Ramos returns home for good — and takes his talents to Asia’s first-ever pay-for-play league.

Nothing is cast in stone yet, but the star guard could join the PBA as early as next year, depending on how his ongoing career overseas pans out.

“Not this year. So, we’ll see. Maybe next year,” he offered.

Ramos said as much on Monday night as he and Gilas Pilipinas began their gear-up for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, set on August 5-17 in Saudi Arabia.

And so, it became an opportune time to ask the national team mainstay about the PBA Draft, with the ongoing Season 49 about to end.

The league is approaching the tail end of its Philippine Cup, with many expecting a busy offseason to follow as it gears up for its 50th season.

Among the activities set to kick-start the golden season would be the draft proceedings, which could take place a month prior to the October 5 opener.

As of now, there is no clear picture about the prospects set to join, but Ramos will not be throwing his name into the hat.

Just last May, the 26-year-old picked up his player option for another year with Levanga Hokkaido, meaning that he’ll stay in the B.League for at least another year.

Everything, though, will be up in the air on May 2026.

Ramos is entering his fifth season in Japan’s top-flight basketball league.

Indeed, his contract situation after the 2025-26 season is one to watch out for, especially among PBA franchises hoping to acquire a talent like him.

However, they’ll have to wait for now. Ramos is choosing to focus on what’s in front of him — fulfilling his Gilas duties.

In fact, he and fellow Filipino import Carl Tamayo are working double time to get back into game shape as they haven’t played competitively since May.

“We’re gonna be playing catchup and we just have to work harder, and try to be as well prepared as we can,” said the four-year pro out of Ateneo.
