UAAP girls’ title culminates Ronald Corot’s athletics vision for Adamson

By: Nicole Parallag

For the first time since joining the UAAP High School Division in Season 82 (2019), Adamson University’s girls’ athletics team claimed its first overall championship — a triumph built on years of perseverance.

For head coach Ronald Corot, this victory for his program was the ultimate reward for years of hard work and dedication.

“Sa totoo lang, naiiyak ako, may luha sa saya dahil first time, hindi namin aakalain na magcha-champion kami ngayon,” shared Corot, who has built the Adamson High School athletics program from the ground up.

By the end of the season, the Baby Lady Falcons had collected an impressive medal haul of four golds, 15 silvers, and nine bronzes, amassing a total of 457 points to secure the championship trophy — a milestone achievement in Adamson’s growing athletics program.

Standout performances from Marjorie Ragudos, who claimed gold in the girls’ high jump; and Erika Dorado, who topped the 2000-meter steeplechase, highlighted the team’s championship effort.

This feat comes two seasons after steering the boys’ program to back-to-back titles from seasons 85 to 86, producing the likes of Kent Jardin and the Loraña twins.

Since day one, Corot has carried not only the responsibility of training athletes but also the role of mentor and father figure.

“Siguro, sa walang sawa kong pagpapaliwanag sa kanila na may pagpapahalaga,” recalled Corot, emphasizing the importance of teaching his athletes values beyond the track.

“Sa totoo, sakripisyo lahat kasi mga babae yan, ang daming kailangang intindihin, pati personal na buhay. Na-encounter namin lahat ‘yan at kailangan naming aksyunan at solusyunan,” he said.

Managing both the collegiate and high school divisions, Corot admitted that handling two programs came with its share of challenges.

“Dati isa lang ako nag manage nyan,” he shared.

“Kailangan kulang sila intindihin, unawain, at paliwanag na kung bakit sila nandyan sa Adamson, na kailangan nilang mag-aral ng mabuti at mag-training para sa game. May mga problem na dumarating, dapat nandyan ka lagi pag may tanong sila.”

For Coach Corot and the Lady Baby Falcons, the championship is not the end of their story but the beginning of a stronger program.

As the celebration settles, the focus now shifts to defending their newly won title.

“Andiyan pa ung iba sa kanila, maraming maiiwan diyan, so ma-maintain namin yung training. Isa yun sa pinaka-crucial, so mas lalo kami magsisikap kase kailangan namin i-defend ung title,” he said.
