UAAP, Cignal look to extend partnership through Season 93

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and Cignal have committed to working on renewing their partnership for another five years, extending from UAAP Season 89 up to UAAP Season 93.

It’s another milestone in the continued collaboration between the top local varsity league and the Philippines’ leader in sports broadcasting. Both have pledged to ensure Cignal continues as the official broadcast partner and extend the dynamic partnership, which has showcased the excellence, passion, and resilience of the student-athletes.

Since coming together in 2020, Cignal has provided the most comprehensive UAAP coverage on free-to-air through One Sports and has delivered the best sports action in HD on the first and only 24/7 channel, UAAP Varsity Channel.

In 2023, Cignal expanded to OTT through Pilipinas Live, bringing the excitement of the UAAP games to fans around the world.

This strategic commitment to diverse content delivery highlights Cignal’s evolution into the Philippines’ leading multi-platform media company, delivering unparalleled sports and entertainment experiences across all screens, anywhere.

“We’ve seen how Cignal TV has brought the UAAP to greater heights in the past four seasons — delivering top-quality broadcasts, wider reach, and powerful storytelling that highlights the heart of our student-athletes,” said UAAP Season 88 President Fr. Rodel S. Cansnacio, OP.

“We look forward to what lies ahead as we work toward finalizing this new chapter together. The continued partnership is rooted in a shared passion for the development of varsity sports. Our student-athletes deserve the biggest stage possible, and this next phase with Cignal TV promises to make that happen across more platforms and more communities.”

“We look forward to continuing this partnership with the UAAP, and as we’ve done in years past, this only reinvigorates our commitment to showcase the best that the UAAP has to offer and elevate the experience for sports fans around the world,” said Jane Jimenez-Basas, Cignal President and CEO. “This collaboration is all about sharing the journey of our young student athletes, developing our sports, and delivering the UAAP to every Filipino.”

“This move to renew the partnership is a testament to the immense reach that Cignal has provided to the UAAP for the past five years. We’ve gone through a lot together; from the time we started our partnership in the middle of the pandemic to where we are now. We can’t wait to renew and strengthen this union even more and inspire more student-athletes in the coming years,” said Atty. Rene Andrei Q. Saguisag, UAAP Executive Director.

As the flagship sports like men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and cheerdance competition remained in the marquee, the spotlight has also been shared with other developing sports like women’s basketball and men’s volleyball, as well as football, beach volleyball, baseball, softball, streetdance, badminton, and esports.

In collaborating to forge anew this partnership, expect Cignal to delve into more events in the UAAP calendar.

Promising even wider reach, Cignal aims to bring a richer and more in-depth UAAP experience to Philippine households and Filipinos everywhere through extensive live coverage, original features, documentary-style programming, and digital-first content that brings fans closer to the action.
