UAAP 86 Softball: Adamson soars closer to Finals with commanding 10-0 win over Ateneo

Adamson University moved closer to another UAAP Softball Finals appearance with a dominant 10-0 victory over Ateneo de Manila University in a shortened four-inning game on Wednesday at the UP Diliman Baseball Field.

The Lady Falcons maintain their unbeaten streak with six wins this season.

They can secure their spot in the championship round with a victory against De La Salle University on Saturday.

“Wala pa ring mag-kampante. Dapat every training all out, dapat every game all-out. Every game, dapat one at a time. Huwag nilang isipin na malapit na kami, dapat all out pa rin,” said Adamson assistant coach Sherylou Valenzuela, who led the team in this game.

Ana Santiago was being honored at the PSC Women in Sports awards night.

Similar to their first-round encounter with the Blue Eagles, the reigning 10-time champions showcased their offense early, scoring three runs in the opening inning.

The Lady Falcons extended their lead in the following inning, highlighted by left-fielder Maedelene Domaug’s single that sparked a six-run surge.

Triples from shortstop Angelu Gabriel, second baseman MJ Maguad, and catcher Aliza Pitchon contributed to five more runs before the inning concluded.

Adamson’s top four batters – Gabriel, Maguad, Roma Cruz, Rem Herrero, and Alaiza Talisik – each collected two hits, underscoring the team’s offensive prowess.

Reigning Best Pitcher Glory Alonzo delivered an impressive performance on the mound.

He pitched an almost-perfect game, save for a walk issued to Danielle Tuprio in the second inning, leading to a pitching change with April Minanga.

In the other match, University of Santo Tomas secured a morale-boosting 9-0 victory over De La Salle University earlier in the day.

The Tiger Softbelles improved to 5-1, setting the stage for crucial matchups against fellow contenders University of the Philippines (3-3) and Adamson University.

UST scored one run each in the first and third innings before capitalizing on a play in the final frame to seal the victory.

With the bases loaded and leading 5-0, Kikay Palma, batting for Angel Bedaño, hit a triple into deep left field, scoring Christine Bautista and Helga Campos.

An ensuing error on the throw by Lady Batters’ center-fielder Matarong allowed Angela Soldarios and Palma to score, adding to the final tally of four runs in the seventh inning.
