Topex Robinson takes the high road on Germy Mahinay’s transfer

Just like a loving father, Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates head coach Topex Robinson accepted his former ward Germy Mahinay’s apology.

Yesterday, the 19-year-old former San Beda Red Cub disclosed that he had to leave the Lyceum Pirates after Robinson had broken his promise to him that he would be immediately be lined up for the NCAA Season 94 Juniors Basketball. Unfortunately, he was only listed as a reserve.

Robinson broke his silence regarding what transpired on Tuesday afternoon after Lyceum’s 88-70 win over the San Sebastian Golden Stags. The honorable mentor admitted that he had also made a mistake in handling the situation, but everything else was just a misunderstanding.

“We talked to him prior to him making the decision. Actually, may mali rin ako but we talked to Germy and his parents before siya lumipat,” shared Robinson.

After the stories broke out on Monday, Mahinay quickly called up Robinson to apologize.

“In fairness naman kay Germy, he was apologizing to me. Coach [Aldin] Ayo was telling coach Nap [Garcia] and them to call me right away,” added Robinson.

“Nag-text nga ako sa kanya na please if you have a chance, come and see me.”

Despite everything that happened, Robinson is happy that the 6-foot-5 big man has found a home in España. And he is hoping that the young buck flourishes with the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

“We are happy for him. To set the record straight, nagpaalam naman sa akin si coach Aldin,” he said.

“We had to give him up especially maganda yung opportunity na binigay sa kanya ng UST.”
