The PBA on Saturday has reviewed Terrence Jones’ headbutt on Chris Ross early in Game Three of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals between TNT and San Miguel Friday night.
And based on what they saw, the league has upgraded the flagrant foul penalty one initially called on Jones to a penalty two, and the former NBA cager now has to pay a fine of PHP 20,000.
The incident happened at the 5:51-mark of the first frame, moments after Jones got his second personal foul on Ross. Ross didn’t go away free as he got called for a technical foul for trash-talking.
Had he been slapped with an F2, Jones would be ejected from the match. But he did not, and only sat for three minutes.
Jones would go on to finish with 37 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists, and five blocks to power the KaTropa to a 115-105 win, which had given them the 2-1 series lead over the Beermen.
Meanwhile, Beermen forward Christian Standhardinger got slapped with a PHP 5,000 fine for an F1.
Standhardinger got called for the flagrant foul after replays showed that he clipped Jones’ right arm and then gave a bit of an elbow to the latter’s rib after battling for the rebound underneath.
No suspensions whatsoever will be served in Game Four this Sunday, August 11, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
