Stephanie Niemer, Petron give Kath Bell perfect present, drop United VC

In another masterful performance, the Petron Blaze Spikers continued their unprecedented streak, sweeping the United Volleyball Club, 25-12, 25-16, 25-20, in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The defending champs have yet to drop a set in five matches. They exhibited their dominance early and often against United, building big leads and quickly cutting off comeback attempts.

“Sobrang nakaka-proud kasi ginagawa talaga nila yung best nila pagdating sa game, which is sa practice naman nakikita naman namin. Nag-stick kami sa game plan na ‘yun,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

He added that Petron still need some polishing for them to be at their peak.

“Kailangan namin ma-test yung team kung ano mangyari ‘pag ganun ‘yung sitwasyon. Good thing they know how to handle yung ganung sitwasyon,” he added.

Stephanie Niemer tallied 18 points, while Kath Bell, who celebrated her 26th birthday, added 17 markers. Mika Reyes was the best scoring local with 10 points.

Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani managed 13 points for UVC, while captain Kalei Mau contributed 11.

Both teams play their next matches on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Petron (5-0) will face rivals F2 Logistics Cargo Movers (4-0), while United (3-3) take on the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters (3-2).
