College of St. Benilde punched its ticket to the semifinals of the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference after laying waste to Technological Institute of the Philippines, 25-13, 25-16, 25-9, Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
“We’re very happy and excited na we got a win and meron tayong time para mag-prepare,” St. Benilde head coach Jerry Yee beamed as his side gets ready for a daunting task of quelling the unscathed Adamson Lady Falcons.
St. Benilde flaunted its depth, as the usual starters came off the bench while the second-stringers saw extended minutes.
“We played them all meaning ‘yung second six, first six, naglaro lahat so everybody executed naman, we’re happy with that,” Yee smilingly said as 11 of his wards logged in a point in the straight-set whipping.
Diane Ventura hammered down eight attacks en route to 10 points. She spearheaded a balanced offensive charge for St. Benilde, which also strung eight markers from Jade Gentapa.
Chelsea Umali collected a pair of blocks and service aces to finish with seven points. Meanwhile, both Klarisa Abriam and Gayle Pascual were only fielded in the second set. Still, the duo made their presence felt on offense as they supplied six markers apiece.
St. Benilde playmaker Jewel Lai only saw action in the second frame as well. She still managed to dish out 14 excellent sets for the Lady Blazers, who ended their elimination campaign with a 4-1 card.
On the other hand, the Lady Engineers closed the curtains to their stint in collegiate conference with a 0-5 slate.
Ashley Jean Jinon topped TIP with 10 points, all coming from attacks. She was the lone double-digit scorer for her team as Wielyn Margallo and Zyra Mae Martinez chipped in six markers apiece. Margallo also had 12 excellent digs in a losing cause.
