The San Sebastian College Recolletos Lady Stags and Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers pulled off contrasting wins over the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers and Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, respectively, in the NCAA women’s volleyball competition, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Perennial contenders San Sebastian dominated San Beda in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19, to clinch their second straight victory of the tournament. The Lady Stags totally out-muscled the Lady Red Spikers in all scoring departments, 39-18 on attacks, 6-0 on blocks, and 7-3 on serves. National team member Gretchel Soltones once again led San Sebastian with 16 points, even after coming off the bench in the third set. Joyce Sta. Rita was a threat at the net, scoring 3 blocks for a total of 8 points. Nieza Viray and Iris Domingo led San Beda with 5 markers each.

In the second game, JRU took their first win of the season against EAC, 27-25, 11-25, 25-15 25-18. After pulling off in the first set against the Lady Generals, the Lady Bombers was outsmarted in the following frame as their reception problems piled up. With the game tied at a set apiece, the Lady Bombers regrouped to claim the next two sets and the match. Rosalie Pepito and Shola Alvarez led the squad with 17 markers each, with three others scoring 7. Nergina Pagdanganan paced EAC with 13 points, with skipper Yvonne Reyes getting 12.
